The American Cancer Society recommends the following for the early detection of breast cancer:

For ages 40 or older:

  • Clinical breast exams every year
  • Breast self-exam every month
  • Mammogram every year.

For ages 20-39:

  • Clinical breast exam every three years
  • Breast self-exam every month
  • Earlier screening guidelines may be recommended depending on your personal risk factors.

A screening mammogram is indicated annually for women with no symptoms who are at least 40 years of age, unless there is a high risk for breast cancer.  A diagnostic mammogram should be regarded as a request for a diagnostic consultation with our radiologist when you are experiencing a breast concern or have a history of breast cancer.

The Women's Services department is a member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers and is certified by the American College of Radiology and the Mammography Quality Standards Act; we provide the following services for screening and diagnosing breast cancer:

  • Mammography (screening and diagnostic)
  • Breast Ultrasound
  • Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy
  • Ultrasound Guided Cyst Aspirations
  • Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
