The Banner Children's Academy of Education and Development, formerly known as the Howard S. Gray School, in Tempe, Ariz., is a nationally accredited private school in metro Phoenix that offers a small class size, experienced faculty and an individualized curriculum, to help students with emotional or learning challenges reach their academic potential.
In August 2014, we moved to our new, bigger campus at:
1410 W. 10th Place, Tempe, AZ 85281.
We have a long history of providing education to children with autism, Asperger's syndrome, as well as emotional and learning disabilities.
Banner Children's Academy is accredited by the North Central Association and approved by the Arizona Department of Education. The school serves public school districts. Our students come from across the Valley, including Peoria, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Mesa and Phoenix, for an education program in a safe and nurturing environment for your child to thrive.
Please feel free to call our Principal Shari Carlsted at (480) 827-5348 or send us an email to get more information about the school and whether your child can attend.
The specialized program at Banner Children's Academy helps students in fourth through 12th grades, develop their intellect, self discipline and self esteem.
We offer academics, social skills instruction, adaptive physical education and life-skill courses to help prepare students for adulthood, and often, post-secondary education.
We have a one-to-six teacher-student ratio. We also offer one-to-one reading assistance and have several reading programs available.
- People above all…by developing a highly individualized program for each student
- Excellence…by developing a reputation for providing the highest quality education possible
- Results…by exceeding the expectations of our students and their parents and facilitating each student to reach his or her maximum potential
As many of our students have endured years of teasing and taunting at other schools, Banner Children's Academy enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward bullying. Our instructors are sensitive to the emotional fragility of the students and emphasize activities which promote the development of self-esteem and empathy for others.
