Residential Program for Drug/Alcohol Problems
The A.O.C., Adolescents Open For Change, program at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital is for teens who have a problem with alcohol or other drugs.  This residential program provides a healing, therapeutic environment focusing on assisting these teens to increase their level of self-esteem, responsibility, education and commitment to initiate and maintain sobriety.

Residents are educated and motivated to increase their coping skills, respect for themselves and others and to become more effective members of their communities.

A.O.C. Groups and Services

  • Twelve Step Meetings
AA, NA, Alateen and other 12-step groups are included in treatment to begin and maintain the recovery process.  Members of  the recovery community lead groups on the unit. It is imperative that these young people meet other young people who are having fun in sobriety! This part of the program provides a transition into aftercare.
  • Ropes Course
Residents participate in a challenge course and other activities that teach team work, build trust, promote coping skills and tests their ability to problem solve.
  • C.D. Focus Groups
These groups assist residents in identifying patterns of emotions, personal responsibility, family issues, spirituality and life events that affect each individual.

Emphasis is placed on chemical dependency education and developing a greater understanding of the relationship between these factors and their efforts to maintain sobriety.  Groups work on improving communication, active listening, self-disclosure, assertiveness training, anger management and other issues.

Multi-Family Group
We strongly encourage immediate family members to participate in the treatment process by attending this group.  Discussions focus on issues related to changes that are needed in the teen and in the family members in order to support successful sobriety.  Family members include parents, legal guardians and siblings over 12 who are not actively using alcohol or other drugs.

Treatment Team
The treatment team consists of psychiatrists, nurses, Clinical Case Managers and Behavioral Health Technicians.
