Our Center performs abdominal, vascular, obstetrics, pelvic, and gynecological ultrasound procedures. With our ultrasound systems, we are able to record dynamic (motion picture) information that is far superior to film in both quality and longevity. With dynamic diagnosis, multiple clips and images are simultaneously presented for an instant virtual review of the exam. This allows the diagnosis to be based upon a large amount of diagnostic information presented faster and more clearly.
What Is It?
Ultrasound utilizes high frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of your body. Similar to the way a submarine bounces sound waves off of objects to see what lies ahead, ultrasound uses sound waves along with a sophisticated computer. Desert Reflections' nationally registered sonographers perform expert abdominal, vascular, obstetric, pelvic, breast and gynecological ultrasound procedures. Our ultrasound system(s) records dynamic (motion picture) information in a digital format that is far superior to film in both quality and longevity. Your diagnosis is based upon an unprecedented amount of diagnostic information presented faster and more clearly.
Why Would Your Doctor Order This Test?
One of the most common reasons to have an ultrasound exam is so the physician can have an early look at a pregnant woman's growing baby. Ultrasound studies are also used to examine the abdominal organs, kidneys and pelvis. Ultrasound of the breast is frequently utilized in addition to a mammogram. It may also be used in special circumstances when a mammogram is not indicated. Our units have dynamic color flow capabilities. This provides critical information about blood flow and possible clots and blockages. Because there is no radiation, ultrasound has been determined to be safe for patients of all ages.
How Is The Test Done?
The ultrasound technologist will ask you to lie on a padded table. You may need to wear a hospital gown depending on the type of ultrasound to be performed. A warm liquid substance, called "gel," will be applied to the area being scanned. This gel provides conduction for the sound waves. A small hand held device, like a tiny microphone, is moved across your body and the images are visible on a computer monitor. At Desert Reflections, all ultrasound exams are stored electronically and can be transferred to a CD for consultations.
