The Respiratory Care Department provides patient care services 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, to neonate, infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. We care for patients with primary pulmonary diagnoses such as COPD, asthma, or pneumonia, as well as those whose primary diagnosis affects the pulmonary system (CHF, neuromuscular systems disorders, premature birth).
Routine 12-lead EKG'S, 24-hour Holter Monitors, 30-Day-Event Monitors, and Exercise Stress Testing are also done by the respiratory therapy staff. Respiratory support is provided during emergency or post-operative periods, as well as providing preventative care for high-risk patients. Our department also supports community outreach programs such as the “Better Breather Club” in an effort educate and provide techniques for living with COPD and emphysema.
The department is responsible for providing safe, effective and appropriate therapy upon a physician's written order. All staff that delivers respiratory therapy or pulmonary diagnostic testing are credentialed through the National Board for Respiratory Care and licensed by the state of Arizona. Our Therapists are also CPR Basic Life Support, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and NRP (Neo-Natal Resuscitation) certified.
In the area of neurology, Respiratory Therapists perform EEG's, nerve conduction velocity studies (NCV) and Electromyography studies (EMG). Respiratory Therapists attend all C-sections and other deliveries as needed, as well as all bronchoscopies.
