Rehabilitation

Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center is committed to making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care. Rehabilitation often is a key component of the care we provide. Physical rehabilitation is a medical specialty that involves the process of restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a result of a disease, disorder, or injury.

The hospital offers inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapy services to help patients reach their highest level of function as quickly and safely as possible. From inpatient therapy that begins in the hospital to specialized rehabilitation and therapy
programs, the hospital meets the varied rehabilitative needs of its patients.

Rehabilitation Services Overview
Banner Del E. Webb offers a vast assortment of  inpatient and outpatient therapy services. From minor deficits to severe conditions affecting an individual’s ability to live and function independently, the experienced staff in the Banner Del E. Webb Rehabilitation Program can care for patients with all levels of needs, including:

  • Occupational Therapy works to improve a
patient’s functional daily living skills, including dressing, grooming and eating, as well as to improve motor, cognitive and social skills. Occupational therapists also specialize in increasing strength and movement of the hands and upper extremities. They help patients relearn functional tasks in different ways and instruct them in the use of adaptive equipment that may make daily tasks easier.
    • Services include activities daily living retraining, hand and upper extremity splinting, adaptive equipment training, client; family/caregiver training, vision, cognition, activities of daily living, and community re-entry.
  • Physical Therapy helps patients improve strength, flexibility and functional movement such as bed mobility, walking and balance. Physical therapists provide mobility evaluation and training, and also can instruct patients on the use of assistive devices, prosthetics and wheelchairs.
    • Services include balance training, body mechanics instruction/ergonomics, coordination with orthotic and prosthetic specialists, gait/mobility training, work conditioning, client/family/caregiver training, and manual therapy.
  • Speech Therapy, also referred to as speech
pathology, uses special techniques to help patients improve their verbal and non-verbal communications skills, problem-solving abilities, concentration, memory and voice quality. Certified speech therapists/pathologists also can help
patients improve their ability to safely eat and drink.
    • Our services include assessment and therapy for the following conditions: dysarthria/dyspraxia of speech, Lee Silverman voice treatment, swallowing disorders, voice therapy, vocal cord dysfunction, laryngeal videostroboscopy, need for speech generating devices, and patients with cognitive communication deficits due to head injury or stroke.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation helps patients who have suffered a heart attack or heart surgery return to a productive, active and satisfying lifestyle through education, exercise and conditioning. The cardiac rehabilitation team consists of the patient’s physician, cardiac nurses, exercise specialists and other health care professionals. Monitored exercise sessions, group education classes and outpatient maintenance programs are key elements of cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Orthopedic Rehabilitation relies on a team of physical and occupational therapists who specialize in orthopedic, trauma, joint replacement and post-surgical rehab. Treatments may include therapeutic exercise programs to improve strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, mobility and gait training, and modalities for pain reduction and improved function.

Whether addressing orthopedic needs, stroke, spinal cord, trauma or acquired brain injuries, the Banner Del E. Webb Acute Rehabilitations program provides an array of specialized programs designed to treat even the most adverse injuries and conditions.
