Ongoing Classes

Banner Desert offers the following classes on an ongoing basis: 

  • Pediatric Pre-Operative Class - A special pre-operation class, with hospital tour, to help children feel more comfortable about what is going to happen before, during and after their  scheduled surgery.  Parents, brothers and sisters are encouraged to attend the class with the child having surgery, to share this fun and informative experience and to have their own questions answered. 
  • Car Seat Safety Classes and Checks - This two-hour class will help you choose the correct safety seat for your child and your car. Bring your car's owners' manual to class. If you already have a car seat, the instructors can help you adjust it for proper and safe installation.
  • Prepared Childbirth Class - During this class, you and your coach will learn what to expect during the late stages of pregnancy, how to detect preterm labor, what to do when labor begins, how relaxation and breathing can help ease pain of childbirth, how the coach can help and what will happen during and following birth. We recommend this class for all mothers. 
  • Prepared Childbirth Refresher Class - If this is not your first pregnancy, you may simply need a reminder about how to relax, breathe and what your coach can do to help during labor and birth. This class will help you practice the techniques you learned during a previuos pregnancy and update you about labor and birthing care.
  • Prepared Childbirth for Teens - This series of classes helps young women understand the particular needs and concerns of pregnancy during adolescences. Classes cover nutrition, emotional and physical changes during and after pregnancy, the birth process and what to expect following birth.
  • OB Orientation - A presentation to help parents-to-be know what to expect during labor, birth and recovery in the hospital. 
  • New Baby Care - The class gives parents-to-be vital information to make life with baby safer and easier: consumer safety informaton, tips for diapering, bathing and caring for a newborn, developmental information and parenting skills. 
  • Breastfeeding - Designed for those who care considering breastfeeding. Learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, how breast milk is produced, pumps, returning to work, how to get off to a good start and avoid common difficulties.
  • Infant Massage - Moms, dads, and babies are invited to attend a Loving Touch® Parent-Infant Massage class presented by a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.  Parents will learn the art of infant massage and be guided through instruction on how to massage their own babies.

Injury Prevention Presentations for Children and Parents:
The Injury Prevention Program at Banner Children's Hospital provides education for children and parents through health fairs, school presentations and community events. Topics include:
