Banner Desert Medical Center is offering a free chest-compression-only CPR class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the dates below in the hospital's Aspen A room, 1400 S. Dobson Road.

Classes will also be available from 9 to 10:30 a.m. June 1, July 6, and Aug. 3.

For many people, chest-compression-only CPR may be easier to learn and remember than traditional CPR, which alternates between chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

People who suffer cardiac arrest - in which the heart stops beating - are less likely to die in subsequent years when bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation using only chest compressions, according to a recent study published in the medical journal Circulation.
