Garden of Hope Spring Luncheon and Silent Auction

Please join us to celebrate the 5th Annual Garden of Hope Spring Luncheon to help spread the word about the remarkable cancer programs and services of Banner Desert Cancer Center. By raising community awareness about Banner Desert Cancer Center, we hope to continue to provide financial support for the wide range of
cancer center programs and services offered, as well as build a community of friends equally passionate about the fight against cancer.

We are raffling off TWO wonderful items- a beautiful painting by Frank Ybarra valued at $3,500 and the gemstone and lodalite (quartz) pendant on silk cord by jewelry designer Joseph Sikorski,
valued at $750.
The painting is on display at Banner Desert's cafeteria; the pendant is on display in the oncology boutique or cafeteria at lunch time.
• Both artists are cancer survivors treated in Banner hospitals, and both have donated these items to our program. Joseph attends the Banner Desert Patient and Caregiver support group.
• Frank is a noted Arizona artist, exhibits in galleries in Scottsdale and Tucson, and was commissioned to paint Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s painting for the Centennial. He was the sole designated artist for the State of Arizona 2012 Centennial.
• Frank mentors our patients at Day of Art, and has a copy of his cancer story painting hanging outside the American Cancer Society office on the first floor of Banner Desert.
Tickets are $20 or three for $50; we take cash, check or charge

The winners will be announced at the GOH Spring Luncheon April 11, 2013.

Stroke Check community screening program is designed to identify persons at risk of stroke who don't know if they are.

Banner Desert offers free chest-compression-only CPR class

Banner Desert Medical Center is offering a free chest-compression-only CPR class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the dates below in the hospital's Aspen A room, 1400 S. Dobson Road.

Classes will also be available from 9 to 10:30 a.m. June 1, July 6, and Aug. 3.

For many people, chest-compression-only CPR may be easier to learn and remember than traditional CPR, which alternates between chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

People who suffer cardiac arrest - in which the heart stops beating - are less likely to die in subsequent years when bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation using only chest compressions, according to a recent study published in the medical journal Circulation.
