Nominations sought for Kerr Community Service Award

The Kerrs’ name on the award pays tribute to the couple’s significant contributions to the East Valley through their professional and volunteer efforts. In its inaugural year, the John and Betty Kerr Community Service Award was presented to Dr. Kerr, in recognition of his outstanding charitable work in the community on behalf of children. Dr. Kerr passed away last year at the age of 84.

The Kerr Award may be presented to a person, couple, or group that has given a lifetime of service, with a focus on the East Valley. The service may have been provided to the community through professional and/or volunteer efforts and should focus on benefiting the community’s health and quality of life.

The 2007 recipient was Eddie and Nadine Basha. Previous years’ recipients include Dr. Kerr (2003); Ross and Anita Farnsworth (2004); Dr. Glenn and Barbara Waterkotte (2005); and Frank Bennett (2006). A committee consisting of past winners, members of the Banner Desert Advisory Board, and members of the Banner Desert leadership team will review nominations and select a winner.

The award will be presented at a special celebration marking Banner Desert’s 35-year anniversary on October 22, 2008.
