Adult cancer survivors enjoy breakfast, hear from fellow survivor

Wylie Tilson and Mark Runfola Survivor Wylie Tilson speaks with Dr. Mark Runfola

MESA, Ariz. (June 7, 2008) -- It was a celebration of life when nearly 300 adult cancer survivors and family members came from all across the Phoenix metro area to attend the annual Cancer Survivor Breakfast.

Presented by the Banner Desert Cancer Center, keynote speaker Wylie Tilson provided a tearful account of his cancer journey.

An esophageal cancer survivor, Tilson thanked all of his Banner Desert caregivers while his oncology surgeon, Dr. Mark Runfola (pictured with Tilson), joined Tilson on stage to lend his support during the emotional speech.

Local merchants also played a role in celebrating life by generously donating raffle prizes and gifts. Cancer survivors were also treated to chair massages, information on support services and popcorn as they left. The Cancer Survivor Celebration is an event that Banner Desert Medical Center holds every June to recognize and rejoice with cancer survivors around the Valley.
