Cancer Diagnosis
Cancer treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis, and the Banner Desert Cancer Center at Banner Desert Medical Center uses a number of cance -detection resources and state-of-the-art medical technologies to identify and stage cancers.
The Banner Desert Cancer Center participates in the Oncology Data Management, a confidential information registry that logs treatment-related data on all new cancer patients, to increase our effectiveness and help better understand the cancer care process.
General cancer information, including cancer patient demographics, cancer identification, cancer treatment modalities and patient outcomes, is collected, analyzed and forwarded to medical professionals at the state and national level. Arizona law requires hospitals to report to the registry.
Banner Desert’s cancer diagnosis resources include:
- Colorectal Screening
- Computerized Tomography (CT)
- Genetic Counseling and Testing
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Mammography
- Nuclear Medicine
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
- R2 Early Detection Image Checker®

In addition to advanced detection and screening technologies, Banner Desert cancer specialists provide genetic testing and counseling to patients who may be at a greater risk of developing certain types of cancers.
