Surgical Care at Banner Desert Medical Center

Surgery

Banner Desert Medical Center offers a full range of surgical specialties and performs more than 17,000 surgeries each year. Surgeons in every specialty are on staff at the hospital, bringing new techniques and treatments to improve the health of East Valley residents.

At Banner Health, where more surgeries are performed than any other organization in all the communities we serve, we provide all surgical patients with the highest standards of care.  Whether the surgery is to repair a hernia, replace a knee or hip, or fix an ailing heart, patients can be assured that our medical professionals have the experience, skill and technology to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We also offer the benefits of surgical robotics with the daVinci® Surgical System. Robotic technology offers a less-invasive option to traditional surgery for patients, resulting in quicker recovery.

Surgical Care Unit
Banner Desert has 22 operating rooms including specialty rooms for pediatric, urology, orthopedic, gynecology, neurology and three dedicated cardiovascular procedures. The hospital's preoperative and recovery areas have been remodeled with an emphasis on patient privacy and comfort.  Surgeons in every specialty area are on staff.

When preparing for surgery, patients can learn more about our entire Surgical Department, including the pre-op teaching and testing, pre-op holding unit, the operating rooms, the post-anesthesia care unit and the sterile processing unit.  The caregivers who comprise these units are involved collaboratively with each other and with the surgeons, anesthesiologists and other health care professionals to provide the best surgical experience possible.

Family-Centered Patient-Care
Our Surgical Care staff focuses on a proactive approach to quality patient care that includes communication and education. From the time the patient begins preparing for surgery through the time the patient is recovering, our team emphasizes a family-centered approach to help ease any anxiety a patient may have.

The preoperative and recovery areas provide space for patients and their families and allow hospital staff to provide supportive, healing care. A bright and airy waiting area provides seclusion for families to wait during a loved one's surgery. The area opens over the first floor atrium, and private consultation rooms are available for families to meet with physicians following surgery.

Pain Management
It is likely the patient will experience some discomfort following their surgical procedure. There are many methods available to keep pain levels to an acceptable level that will allow a patient to participate in therapy and rest. Discuss these options with the surgeon and anesthesiologist and review our additional information on pain management.
