What is Ultrasonography?
Ultrasonography, or Ultrasound Imaging, is a non-invasive imaging technique which uses sound waves to obtain images of various organs and tissues throughout the body.
While the patient is lying down, a gel is applied to the skin and a transducer, or "probe", is placed against the skin on the gel and slowly moved around.
Sound waves are transmitted and received by the probe, and digital images are stored for analysis. In most cases, ultrasound exams take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to perform. A radiologist will interpret the images and a report will be sent to your physician.
