Are you scheduled for surgery or an invasive procedure? Banner Estrella Medical Center offers you, your family, and your caregivers a free class on different relaxation techniques to prepare for surgery.

What is PREPS?
PREPS stands for Peaceful Relaxation Education for Patients before Surgery. Research indicates that people who prepare for surgery experienced less pain, fewer complications and a faster recovery. The goal of the PREPS program is to help you prepare for a fast recovery.

What will I learn?
Trained PREPS instructors will teach you simple techniques for rapid recovery, pain management and maintaining a strong immune system after your surgery or procedure.

Instructors use a variety of methods to promote relaxation and enhance the healing process. Some of these methods include:

  • Breathing exercises
  • Guided imagery
  • Positive affirmation statements
  • Music
  • Laughter

Do I have to attend this class?
No, your participation in this class is completely voluntary. However, several surgeons who practice at Banner Estrella recommend PREPs to their patients.

How much does this cost?
