Banner MediSun earns 4.5 stars from CMS
Banner MediSun received 4.5 out of 5 stars from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for their 2012 Medicare plan. Banner MediSun is an Arizona-based Medicare health plan serving Medicare-eligible residents in Maricopa County and select areas of Pinal County and is one of only 40 Medicare plans to achieve this ranking.
Stars are awarded on how well plans perform in a number of areas, including:
- Keeping members healthy (screenings, tests and vaccines)
- Managing long-term conditions
- Plan responsiveness and care
- Member complaints and solving problems
- Customer service.
Banner MediSun provides plans with low to zero plan premiums, low doctor and specialist copays, and even optional dental coverage. Members have access to Banner Health physicians and hospitals.
"We believe the relationship between patients and physicians is where health care really happens, and our place in the Banner Health family provides a higher level of trust and security for our members," said Bill Harris, chief operating officer. "It is a key element to our success."
Banner MediSun was founded 12 years ago and currently serves more than 21,000 members.
CMS is increasing the value of the Star ratings system, with increased attention and earnings to plans that perform well by the Star standards. Plan performance summary star ratings are assessed each year and may change from one year to the next.
