Diagnostic Imaging Section Chief named for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center
Donald Schomer, M.D., has been named Diagnostic Imaging Section Chief at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, scheduled to open Sept. 26, 2011, on the Banner Gateway Medical Center Campus in Gilbert, Arizona.
“Dr. Schomer’s patient care and leadership experience at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will enable Banner MD Anderson to provide a similar patient experience in Arizona,” said Edgardo Rivera, M.D., medical director for Banner MD Anderson. “He will ensure high quality and accurate diagnostic imaging in a patient-centered environment.”
Dr. Schomer is currently a neuroradiologist with Radiology Imaging Associates in Denver, CO. He worked from 1994 to 2002 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, serving as director of neurointerventional radiology (1998-2002), medical director for the Radiology Outpatient Center (2000-2002), and an associate professor of Radiology.
Dr. Schomer received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering at the University of Houston. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in magnetic resonance imaging at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, along with a fellowship in neuroradiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also received an MBA from Rice University in 2000. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology with a certificate of added qualifications in neuroradiology.
