Dr. Tricia Nguyen named chief medical officer of Banner Health Network
Tricia Nguyen, MD, MBA, has joined Banner Health as chief medical officer of Banner Health Network (BHN), a comprehensive provider care network comprised of Banner-affiliated physicians, Banner hospitals and other Banner services. BHN provides a population health management model of care, which offers a highly coordinated patient experience through a primary care setting that seeks to improve patient outcomes, control costs and emphasize wellness.
Dr. Nguyen brings significant experience for the clinical leadership role in BHN. She has a successful track record of clinical and business accomplishments, with experience as an emergency medicine physician, a physician leader in a hospital setting and an executive leader in the health insurance industry.
She joins Banner from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, where she was vice president, chief medical officer. In that position, Dr. Nguyen provided leadership in a number of key areas, including developing health and wellness programs, delivering clinical outcomes, and providing clinical guidance and innovation during the company’s transformation to industry leadership.
“I am very excited to help lead Banner Health Network as it is launched with a focus on wellness and improving patient care outcomes through better coordination and access to patient information,” Dr. Nguyen said. “It is very clear to me that changes have to occur at the point of care/service and there needs to be an alignment of incentives and system to promote synergy between physicians and patients.”
A foundation of the BHN's ability to deliver highly coordinated patient care is an electronic medical records system that is utilized for every patient who receives care at a Banner hospital. Wherever a patient goes within BHN, information about care they have received is available. Dr. Nguyen has significant experience with electronic medical records, technology and data management.
“We are pleased to have someone of Tricia’s caliber, with her breadth of experience, join Banner Health Network in this clinical leadership position,” said John Hensing, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Banner Health. “She is a great addition to the Banner leadership team.”
Dr. Nguyen received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Creighton University School of Pharmacy; a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine; and a Medical Management Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible in Pediatrics.
