Introducing our systemwide No Flu For You campaign
The Senior Management Team has approved a systemwide mandatory influenza vaccine policy that will require Banner Health employees, employed physicians, volunteers, vendors/contractors and students to receive a flu vaccination by Dec. 1, 2012.
Those who are unable to receive the vaccination due to medical or religious reasons will be given the opportunity to apply for an exemption to meet the Dec. 1 deadline.
Banner believes requiring the flu vaccination supports our “people first” philosophy. The flu can be prevented and immunization is one of the most effective ways to decrease the spread of the virus. Thousands of our patients, employees, neighbors and co-workers are affected by the flu every year. Transmission of the flu is a substantial safety concern that puts the very people we serve and the persons with whom we serve alongside, at risk. We can help protect ourselves, our patients and our families by receiving the vaccine.
Banner began its initial work on the “No Flu for You” immunization campaign during the Fall of 2010.
The Senior Management Team endorsed piloting the effort at Banner Ironwood to determine how best to implement a systemwide effort in the future. At Ironwood the flu vaccination was mandatory for all employees, volunteers and medical staff in 2011. The pilot was successful. As of Dec. 15, 2011, Banner Ironwood was more than 99 percent compliant, for employees, staff, physicians and volunteers vaccinated. The rest of the Banner system was at 51 percent in terms of vaccination compliance.
The flu vaccine will be provided FREE to all Banner Health employees, medical staff and volunteers, with vaccinations beginning this month.
