Walgreens will no longer accept Banner Health Pharmacy plan beginning 2012
Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, Walgreens will no longer accept your Banner Health Pharmacy plan coverage. Individuals will be allowed to continue to use their pharmacy services through Dec. 31, 2011 with no changes in coverage.
All Banner Health pharmacy plans are managed by Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit management company. Banner, like many other employers, government entities and health insurance plans, partners with Express Scripts (ESI) to help achieve high levels of quality, drug safety and affordability in our pharmacy plans.
By negotiating with pharmacy providers on behalf of tens of millions of covered members, ESI helps save money for patients and their families, and for Banner by managing prescription costs and minimizing premium increases from year to year.
Express Scripts contracts with thousands of pharmacies across the nation on an ongoing basis. During recent negotiations for the 2012 plan year, Walgreens made the decision not to continue to contract with ESI, and is already sharing their decision directly with individuals who currently use Walgreens.
