How Will the Center of Excellence Designation Affect My Care?
When you have your surgery at a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, you know you are getting the best care available. Banner Gateway Medical Center has been a Center of Excellence since 2010.
The excellent outcomes achieved by our patients are consistent with the requirements of a Center of Excellence, that a patient is able to lose 50 percent of excess body weight and keep it off for a period of three years.
The nursing staff who care for you have been fully trained to help bariatric surgery patients. Our hospital has been designed with your needs in mind; hospital gowns fit patients well, blood pressure cuffs are sized right for accuracy, and beds and bathrooms have been equipped to accommodate bariatric surgery patients comfortably.
The clinic staff and the hospital staff are very knowledgeable about the health challenges of obese patients. Because of this special training, there is a decreased chance of significant complications after surgery. Potential complications are identified early and are treated before problems arise.
A hospital staff who anticipates your needs means you will have a less stressful stay and be able to focus on recovering and beginning an active and healthy lifestyle.
About Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program
The American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery combined their respective national bariatric surgery accreditation programs into a single unified program to achieve one national accreditation standard for bariatric surgery centers, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
MBSAQIP works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgical centers. A bariatric surgical center achieves accreditation following a rigorous review process during which it proves that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice.
