Healing Garden
The Healing Garden is just one of many
projects at Banner Good Samaritan made
possible by contributions from The Friends of
Good Sam and the Candlelight Capers Ball.
The Friends of Good Sam are a dedicated group of people who raise awareness and respond to the funding needs of Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, its programs and patients.

One of this group's biggest events is the hospital’s annual black-tie charity event, Candlelight Capers Ball, a memorable evening befitting its rich legacy and fundraising tradition. Over the years, the Friends of Good Sam have raised more than $10 million to support key hospital projects such as:

  • Construction of the Laura Dreier Breast Center. This center was built with a spa-like atmosphere to help comfort women as they receive breast health services.
  • Banner Good Samaritan’s beautiful Healing Garden, at the center of our patient towers. The beautiful, serene garden allows anxious family and friends, and even patients, to steal away briefly from the hospital environment and enjoy the beauty of native plants and wandering water features.
  • Trauma education for Arizona’s rural communities, including a new mobile simulation training center that can be taken to the farthest corners of the state.
  • In 2008, Candlelight Capers will support research into the use of virtual reality games in the rehabilitation for patients recovering from trauma, stroke, major surgery and other illnesses and injuries.

Originally started as a tea dance more than 50 years ago, Candlelight Capers Ball is one of Banner Good Samaritan’s primary fundraising events.
