Why Our MagnetÔ Status Is Important To You
The Magnet Recognition Program® is a prestigious designation to recognize health care organizations for nursing excellence.
Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, the flagship hospital for Banner Health, was recognized in June 2005, and again in 2010, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association. Banner Good Samaritan is ranked among the nation’s leading health care facilities for nursing care. It is the first Banner facility to achieve Magnet™ status.
Of approximately 6,000 hospitals nationwide, only 373 have earned Magnet™ recognition to date—a four-year designation by the ANCC. Banner Good Samaritan was chosen for the delivery of exceptional patient care, promoting staff growth and development and positive patient outcomes. With more than 1,500 nursing professionals serving an estimated 43,000 inpatients annually, it is the largest and longest serving medical center in Arizona to hold the honor.
In March 2007, our sister facility at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo., became the second Banner facility to achieve Magnet™ status.
Characteristics of a Magnet™ hospital
As a Magnet™ facility, patients are likely to experience shorter hospital stays and increased satisfaction with care. What’s more, Magnet™ hospitals typically have lower mortality rates. Also, nurses often prefer to work in a Magnet™ facility and thus have greater satisfaction with their job, choosing to stay in their role longer assuring an experienced staff.
A true testament of collaboration
Magnet™ recognition status at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center was achieved through collaboration among all of the hospital’s many departments. Any hospital employee who comes in contact with a patient ultimately impacts his or her care experience. It is very important to us that every employee in every department delivers that level of service.
Attracting highly qualified nurses
Magnet™ recognition will further enhance Banner Good Samaritan’s ability to attract and retain the most qualified nursing professionals. Nurses who move to Arizona say they begin their job search by looking for a Magnet™ hospital.
What does this mean for you?
A Magnet™ designation can help consumers locate health care organizations with a proven level of excellence in nursing care. We are very proud of this achievement, and of the care that we offer our patients everyday.
