Holiday poison proofing
PHOENIX (December 7, 2006) –
The Banner Poison Control Center at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center offers plenty of information for holiday events and ways to prevent accidental poisonings from plants, aromatic lamp oils and medications.

Banner Good Samaritan opens Anemia Center
PHOENIX (Dec. 4, 2006) – To assist prospective patients prior to surgery and to reduce postoperative complications resulting from anemia, the Internal Medicine Center and Blood Conservation Medicine department at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center have established the Banner Good Samaritan Anemia Center to bolster a patient’s blood count and reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Banner Health teams with organ transplant groups for organ donor registry drive
PHOENIX (Nov. 14, 2006) – Banner Health, the Donor Network of Arizona and the Arizona Coalition for Transplantation, are asking Arizonans to increase the number of organ donors in the state. The “12 Weeks of Giving” campaign seeks to register 400,000 new organ donors before Jan. 26, 2007, by educating citizens about organ donation and to provide the opportunity for those individuals to sign-up officially to donate.

Banner Alzheimer’s Institute to celebrate grand opening
PHOENIX (Oct. 24, 2006) – Banner Health will officially celebrate the opening of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Researchers identify memory gene
Phoenix, AZ, October 19, 2006 – Researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) today announced the discovery of a gene that plays a significant role in memory performance in humans. The findings, reported by TGen and research colleagues at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, and Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, appear in the October 20 issue of Science.

New England Journal of Medicine publishes Alzheimer’s medications study co-authored by Banner doctor
PHOENIX (Oct. 11) - The New England Journal of Medicine is publishing a study this week co-authored and co-directed by Dr. Pierre N. Tariot, director of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Phoenix.
