Banner Good Samaritan Opens New Maternity Center

14-bed Maternity Triage area marks first completed clinical area in two-year expansion plan

PHOENIX (January 14, 2004) – Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center is watching the birth of its new Maternity Center, the first completed clinical area in the hospital's two-year, $90 million expansion project.
"The Maternity Center will help us enhance the excellent patient care our staff provides to the nearly 7,000 women who come to Banner Good Samaritan every year for the births of their children," said Barbara LaBranche, director of the Labor and Delivery department.
Banner Good Samaritan employees received tours of the new Maternity Triage area during a special open house preview.
The Maternity Center is designed with patient and visitor comfort in mind. The center features:
  • 14 exam rooms (compared to 10 in the old area)
  • an emergency delivery room
  • a spacious new OB education classroom and outdoor patio
  • a dedicated registration and admitting area
  • comfortable waiting area
LaBranche noted that the new triage area and the admissions/waiting room are adjacent to Banner Good Samaritan's other labor and delivery areas that include delivery rooms, surgical delivery areas, and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit operated by Phoenix Children's Hospital.
The former triage area, also located on the third floor of Banner Good Samaritan, will soon be converted into an additional eight delivery rooms, raising the total delivery rooms from 32 to 40, LaBranche added.
Over the past decade, more Arizona families chose to deliver their babies at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center than any other center in the state, enhancing the hospital's reputation as one of the nation's most respected birthing centers.
Families can relax in the spacious Registration and Waiting area, located adjacent to the exam rooms and connected to the Visitor's Garage.
As a Level III Perinatal Center, Banner Good Samaritan is nationally recognized for its care of high-risk mothers, especially mothers delivering triplets or more. In fact, the hospital attracts mothers expecting triplets, quadruplets and more from across the country, and even from around the world.
Banner Good Samaritan is Arizona's largest and busiest medical center. Located in downtown Phoenix, Banner Good Samaritan has been providing medical care since 1911. Today, nearly 1,700 physicians representing nearly 50 specialties work with Banner Good Samaritan staff to provide care to more than 34,000 inpatients per a year.
