The following information is provided to help you prepare for your stay at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Customer Service
Your care and satisfaction are of the highest importance to us. Please let your nurse know of any special needs you may have. Every unit of the hospital has an assigned charge nurse available 24-hours a day who will gladly assist you or your family with any unresolved issues.

Complaints and Grievances
Patients and families can express their concerns about any aspect of their hospitalization without fear of retaliation, and/or utilize the hospital's grievance process for unresolved concerns or issues. If you have a complaint, you can attempt to resolve the issue with their caregiver first or with Patient Relations before filing a written complaint. All written complaints are acknowledged within five working days and resolved in a timely fashion.

You also have the right to file a grievance with Banner Health and/or the Arizona Department of Health if you are not satisfied with the resolution of the complaint. For more information, contact Patient Relations at (602) 839-2236.

Ethics Committee
Patients and families have the right to access the ethics committee. The ethics committee provides consultation advice, when indicated, to patients, family, staff of Banner Good Samaritan on ethical issues related to patient care. To access the ethics committee, please contact your caregiver, Patient Relations, or the Medical Staff office who will facilitate the consult.

Accommodations and Hotels List

Advance Directives
The Pre-hospital Directives, Living Will , Medical Power of Attorney and/or Mental Health Power of Attorney gives directions to health care providers for the provision of services to patients who can no longer make or communicate healthcare decisions for themselves. Only the patient has a right to accept or refuse medical intervention. 

These rights are transferable to the parents or guardian when the patient is a neonate or child adolescent. For adults, these rights may be transferred to a court appointed guardian or to the person designated to represent them in the event they are unable to make decisions for themselves. For more information, or to complete one of these legal documents, ask your nurse.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM)
An ATM machine is located just outside of the cafeteria on Lower Level 2 of the Patient Towers, and one next to the Gift Shop, near the Main Lobby.

Billing and Insurance
If you have questions about your insurance coverage, or if you need to make payment arrangements, call Patient Services representative at (602) 839-4300 (or dial 1-4300 when inside Banner Good Samaritan).

Dining Services
Visitors are invited to dine in the Banner Bistro. The cafeteria offers a wide selection of grill items, hot entrees, daily specials, salad bar, various desserts, snacks and beverages. It is located on the Lower Level 2 of the Patient Tower. The cafeteria hours are: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Mobile Phones
The use of cellular phones and other wireless electronic devices is permitted in most areas of our hospital. The areas where cell phones are prohibited include the Emergency department treatment areas, pre-op or recovery rooms. Cell phones must be turned off in these areas.

Chaplain Services
Patients and visitors of all faiths are welcome to visit the Chapel for prayer and meditation daily from 6 a.m. to midnight. The Chapel is located near the Healing Garden, between the Main Lobby and the Patient Tower. If you would like to speak with a chaplain ask your nurse or call the hospital operator by dialing "0."  Learn more about Chaplain Services.

Closed-Circuit TV
Banner Good Samaritan now uses the Skylight system in all patient areas. Skylight is an interactive entertainment system that allows patients to view several television channels, order on-demand pay-per-view movies and have limited access the Internet. There are also several hospital information channels, patient and visitor resources, patient surveys, and health education programming on demand.

Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is located near the Main Lobby of the hospital. The shop carries a wide variety of items, gifts and flowers. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For services, please call (602) 839-5677 (1-5677 inside Banner Good Samaritan).

A healing environment plays a vital role in health care. Banner Good Samaritan has a variety of offerings to make patients feel more empowered, or even just more comfortable, during a hospital stay. A Healing Garden, a health science library, a dog therapy program, music therapy program, murals and works of art are just a few examples of our healing focus.

Mail
Letters and packages will be delivered to your room by a hospital volunteer. Please address mail to: Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, 1111 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006 and state that the recipient is a patient at Banner Good Samaritan. Mail that arrives after you have been discharged will be forwarded to the return address you provided in Admitting. To send mail, give your stamped letters and postcards to your nurse.

Miss Lulu's Cafe
Satisfy the urge for an espresso drink or a light meal at Miss Lulu's Cafe, located across from the Gift Shop. Call ahead for faster pickup: (602) 839-3798.

Hours:

  • Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Saturday/Sunday and Holidays: 6:00 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Parking
Visitors have many options when it comes to parking on campus including a structured garage near the main entrance. Valet parking is available at the hospital's main entrance for a $4 fee. Patient Food Service
Patient meals are prepared for you with consideration of your special dietary needs. Your personal food choices will be offered by our nutrition representative prior to your meals. If you have any questions about your special diet, or if there is any way we can make your meals more pleasurable, please ask any member of the food and nutrition team. Food orders are now being placed through the Culinary Services call center. Patients can pre-select what they would like to eat on the Culinary Services Menu and call it in at (602) 839-4430 (1-4430 if dialing from a Banner Good Samaritan phone).

Patient Satisfaction Surveys
Upon your discharge, you may receive a patient survey with regard to your stay at Banner Good Samaritan. Please take the time to fill this form out. Your opinions are important to us and allow us to continuously improve the care and services we provide to our patients and their families. It is our goal to provide you with excellent service. We compare ourselves to 1,400 hospitals across the country and rely on you to let us know how we are doing.

Patient Valuables
The hospital cannot be responsible for lost or stolen valuables. Please send all jewelry and valuables home with a family member. For your convenience, a safe is available for certain items you cannot send home. Ask your nurse to assist in labeling eye glasses, denture cups, walkers, canes and wheelchairs.

Security Services
To get a ride to the parking lot (24 hours a day) or another part of the hospital campus, please call Security at (602) 747-4400. In addition to this service, there are several security boxes located around the perimeter of the campus. These call boxes, designated with a flashing blue light, are a direct link to the Security dispatcher.

Smoking
Banner Good Samaritan is a smoke-free health care facility. Smoking is not permitted in any of the buildings on the campus. If you wish to smoke during your stay, please ask the nursing staff for designated locations.

If you are hearing impaired or need an interpreter or translator, please contact Patient Relations at (602) 839-2236 or ask your nurse.

Using the Telephone
To make local calls from your room dial "9," then the number. To make long distance calls, dial "0" for a hospital operator, or use a calling card. To place a call to another Banner Good Samaritan number, dial "1" then the last four digits of the number only.

Waiting Areas
There are specially designated lounges for visitors. Ask staff and volunteers to show you to a nearby waiting room.
