  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol

Symptoms of peripheral artery disease

A person may be living with peripheral artery disease for several years before noticing symptoms. A first sign is leg pain or cramping that happens while walking or after walking, standing or exercising. Some people also feel numbness and fatigue in their leg muscles. The pain or numbness usually goes away when the activity is completed.

People with more advanced peripheral artery disease have these symptoms:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Lower temperature in one leg
  • Pale or bluish skin color
  • Poor nail growth
  • Sores or wounds on the feet, legs or toes
  • Weak or absent pulses in the legs or feet

At you at risk for peripheral artery disease?

  • Are you 70 years or older?
