Banner Good Samaritan Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders Clinics
Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center offers epilepsy patients a way to find out the cause of their seizures and the most effective treatments to manage them.
What is a seizure?
A seizure is a sudden time-limited involuntary alteration of neurologic functioning caused by an abnormal electrical discharge from neurons in the brain. A single seizure does not make a diagnosis of epilepsy.
What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is not a disease, but rather a condition/syndrome in which a patient experiences recurrent seizures. According to the Center for Disease Control, epilepsy affects about 3 million Americans (approximately 1 percent of the population), with 125,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
The Banner Good Samaritan Epilepsy Clinic
Our Epilepsy Clinic is located on the second floor of the Rehabilitation Institute on the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center campus. Our team of epileptologists is available for epilepsy consults upon referral.
Patients are admitted to the unit when their condition requires prolonged simultaneous Video/EEG monitoring or when they are being evaluated for epilepsy surgery.
The detailed information provided by the Video/EEG, along with imaging, neuropsychological, and functional results, helps the epilepsy team develop customized treatment plans for each patient.
If a prior epilepsy consult is needed before admission, please contact the epilepsy clinic at (602) 839-6533.
Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
