Movement Disorders Clinic at Banner Good Samaritan

The Banner Good Samaritan Movement Disorders Center works with patients with movement disorders to help them lead normal lives with therapy and medications.

We can help with:

  • Parkinson's: causes tremor, rigid muscles and difficulty initiating movement
  • Essential Tremor – an inherited condition causing tremors that can affect routine activities such as eating or shaving
  • Dystonia – muscle contractions that cause twisting or repetitive movements
  • Dyskinesia – abnormal involuntary movements
  • Spasticity – contractions of muscles causing stiff and awkward movements
  • Chorea – involuntary muscular twitching of the limbs or facial muscles

The Movement Disorders Center Can Help
Patients who visit the Movement Disorders Center, on the second floor of the Banner Good Samaritan Rehabilitation Institute, see each team member during their four-hour visit. At the end of this comprehensive assessment, we make concrete, practical suggestions to help patients improve their quality of life. We will also report to the patient's referring physician.

Our team can include:

  • Neurologists
  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Speech therapists
  • Nursing therapists
  • Neurosurgeons
  • Neuro-psychologists

Physicians and staff are available to discuss and answer questions and address concerns.

See our factsheet for more information.

Some Parkinson's disease and Essential Tremor patients may benefit from deep brain stimulation – a procedure that uses tiny electrodes to adjust the electrical current to the brain to reduce or stop tremors.

Research Provides Key to the Future
The Center also sponsors and participates in national clinical trials to offer our patients the latest options in the treatment of movement disorders.
