An outpatient neuropsychological evaluation is considered to be part of a comprehensive neurological diagnostic work-up. 

Neuropsychological tests assess various aspects of cognition (thinking abilities) such as:

  • memory
  • attention
  • language
  • speed of thinking
  • problem-solving abilities

The purpose of this assessment is to determine whether or not certain systems or areas of the brain may not be functioning as efficiently as expected.

The tests help identify areas of the brain affected by a neurologic condition including

Results are used to help determine treatment plans including treatment of potentially reversible cognitive problems. 

The Neuroscience Clinic offers a comprehensive Neuropsychology program. Our board-certified neuropsychologist, Jennifer Bortz, PhD., is well-versed in performing neuropsychological evaluations for patients considering Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease or surgery for epilepsy

Neuropsychological evaluations are also available for patients with multiple sclerosis, stroke, mild cognitive impairment and other neurological disorders.
