Community Outreach

For more than 20 years, Banner Health, along with the Phoenix Suns, has been a proud sponsor of the Banner Wheelchair Suns, an extraordinarily successful team in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.

This partnership dates to the mid-1980s when the Banner Good Samaritan Rehabilitation Institute and the Phoenix Suns founded the Samaritan Wheelchair Suns.

The Wheelchair Suns now encompasses four teams – the Men’s Division I and Division II; the Banner Wheelchair Mercury for women; and the Banner Junior Suns for youths, which started their first season in 2006.

The Banner Wheelchair Suns and Mercury perform many exhibitions and wheelchair skills clinics that help raise community awareness of the abilities of those who are disabled.
