Philosophy of the Music Therapy Program
Banner Good Samaritan's music therapy program seeks to bring compassionate care to our patients and their families. Due to their diagnosis or treatment, many patients may experience pain, depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, fear and/or isolation. Our goal is to improve the quality of lives of our patients and their families using various musical techniques to address the above issues. The research-based techniques we use include relaxation exercises and visualization, song writing, improvisation, lyric analysis, singing, verbal emotional support and decision making activities. Techniques are chosen based on the patient's needs and which techniques are best suited for each individual patient. Music therapy activities are used to facilitate medical treatment and to provide emotional support to the patient and their family during the patient's treatment.

Therapy Sessions
Music therapy is available to all patients. Most sessions are individual sessions with patients, although family members are often present and do participate frequently.
Weekly group sessions are held on the Behavioral Health Unit and Rehabilitation Unit.
Music Therapy Personnel
Our staff consists of professional music therapists and music therapy interns. All of our music therapists hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy from a college or university program approved by the American Music Therapy Association. In addition, each of our music therapists is credentialed by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Our music therapy interns are in the process of completing the clinical training required to receive a degree in music therapy.
