The Banner Poison Control Center (BPCC) is an American Association of Poison Control Centers certified regional poison center serving the citizens of Arizona in Maricopa County. Maricopa County is located in central Arizona and is home to 60 percent of the state's 5.4 million residents.
Eight of the 10 most populous cities in the state are in found in Maricopa County's "Valley of the Sun," including Phoenix, the state's capital and the sixth largest city in the United States.
The BPCC was established in 1979 and has continuously served the citizens of Maricopa County and surrounding counties for 25 years. It is supported by Banner Health, the state of Arizona, United Way and charitable donations. The poison center serves the entire state of Arizona, providing rapid access to poison information, first aid and treatment recommendations.
Services
The Banner Poison Control Center provides a free, 24-hour emergency telephone service for both residents and medical professionals of Maricopa County. The Hotline is staffed by nurses or pharmacists highly trained in the recognition and assessment of poisonings, first aid treatment and drug information.

The Banner Poison Control Center has specially trained staff to answer the phones and give you immediate expert advice.
This is a free service. Anytime means 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Holidays.
If you think someone has been poisoned:

Stay calm

Call the Banner Poison Control Center right away

Do not wait for symptoms to appear

Have the exact name of the product (bring the jar or bottle with you to the phone)

Try to figure out how much or many of the poison the person was exposed too

Know the time that the poisoning took place - how long ago

Know the age and weight of the person

Tell the nurse if the person has any other health problems

Tell the nurse if you have already tried any treatments
-
Most of all listen carefully to the nurse and follow instructions exactly
The professional staff will decide the best way to take care of the poisoning. In 80 percent of poisonings the person can be treated at home without going to the Emergency Room.
Physician Support
The Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center Department of Medical Toxicology in Phoenix provides physician support to the poison center. The poison center physicians are available 24 hours a day to manage the care of the poisoned patient.
Community Education
Our community educators develop and distribute a variety of educational materials to the residents of Maricopa County. The center holds exhibits and workshops for businesses, schools and community groups.
Community Support
The Banner Poison Control Center is a United Way agency and was established in 1979 by the late Donald B. Kunkel, M.D.
Serving all of Maricopa County and central Arizona, the non-profit Poison Center relies on state funding, the United Way, grants from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, private agencies and donations from individuals and families.
