Patient Safety to Prevent Injuries
Banner Heart Hospital believes safe patient handling and movement procedures can help reduce injuries to patients and nurses as well as help patients have faster recoveries.
Throughout our hospital, we use non-friction sliding sheets, slings, and lifts to make movement easier and safer for patients and nurses.
Without such precautions patients may sustain injuries ranging from bruises to joint dislocation, even broken bones.
Nurses’ injuries are more often sustained over a career, as a result of lifting and moving patient and they are left with back, shoulder, knee, and wrist degeneration.
Our physical therapists use the equipment and techniques to help our patients sit, stand and walk in an environment that’s safe for them, and safe for the nurses helping them. By using that equpment, patients can strength train and return to walking more quickly.
Research shows that In a 12-hour shift, a nurse can lift the equivalent of 1.8 tons, an enormous strain on their backs, shoulders, and joints, Health care workers experience musculoskeletal disorders more frequently than workers in construction, mining, manufacturing, and freight haulers and handlers.
