Diagnosis and Treatment
Banner Heart Hospital has a specially trained team to diagnose pulmonary hypertension. Typically, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation in the catheterization lab to determine if the condition is reactive or non-reactive.
Other tests may include a chest X-ray, echocardiogram, pulmonary function test, CT scan or MRI. Proper diagnosis is key to determine the best course of treatment.
Treatment
Although pulmonary hypertension isn’t curable, treatments are available that can help lessen symptoms and improve quality of life.
During the evaluation, the Banner Heart Hospital Pulmonary Hypertension team will gather information to help determine the best treatment. Typically, this will be a course of medication. In some cases, it may involve surgery.
Follow-up
Once the evaluation has been completed and treatment recommendations have been made, a Banner Heart Hospital physician will communicate directly with the patient’s referring physician. Together, they will decide how to best manage the condition on an ongoing basis.
