Classes

Having a baby can be an overwhelming experience. At Banner Ironwood Medical Center, we’ll be right beside you every step of the way. We offer a variety of classes for moms, dads and siblings to help ensure a successful pregnancy, delivery and transition home from the hospital.

Pit Crew Training for New Dads
This class is just for fathers and grandfathers. This is your time to discuss your thoughts about fatherhood with other men. The course reviews the pros and cons of breastfeeding and how fathers can assist. Fathers also learn diapering, swaddling and tips for the care of a newborn. Participants should bring a doll or stuffed animal to class. The class is open to all new fathers and grandfathers.

Breastfeeding Class
This class covers all the information you need to get started nursing your baby including breast feeding techniques, nutrition, breast milk production and storage and going back to work.  Please bring your "Parents to Be Book" to class.  
 
Childbirth Preparation Class
Topics include preparing for labor and delivery, body changes, stages of labor, breathing techniques, positions for labor and delivery, as well as medical options and practices. Please bring two pillows, a mat or large towel, a pen, and your "Parents to Be" book. A tour is included. 

Newborn Care Class
This class is for mothers and their support person who plan to deliver at Banner Ironwood Medical Center and want information on parenting skills, baby care, and safety. Topics include feeding, diapering, bathing, and comforting the baby. You will also learn baby growth and development, as well as symptoms of illness.

Sibling Adjustment Class
The class is for children ages 3-10. It covers adjusting to a new baby in the family, interacting with the baby, feelings, holding the baby and a trip to the nursery.  An adult must attend.

Teen Childbirth Class - 18 & Under
This class will address body changes, nutrition, baby development, what to expect, when you should call the doctor and what you can do to make labor and delivery easier. You can attend with or without one labor partner
 
Tour Banner Ironwood OB Unit
Free class for mothers-to-be and their support person who plan to deliver at Banner Ironwood. Your tour includes a sneak peek at our labor, delivery, recovery, and private patient rooms. The tours are led by Women's Center nurses and give you an opportunity to become acquainted with the services, people and philosophy of care.
