Audio: “Welcome to a very special evening for the future of cancer care in Arizona. I’m Pam Nenaber, CEO for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Banner Gateway Medical Center.
We are here tonight to light a Lantern of Hope, symbolizing the upcoming opening of the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center on September 26.
Banner MD Anderson is proud to have Dr. Rivera as the leader of our medical team. Please join me in welcoming him.”

Audio: ““Our vision is that Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center will become a regional resource for cancer patients and their families. We will offer a new level of hope to those fighting this terrible disease. Please welcome Missy Lagomarsino, who will share her personal story of strength and hope. It is by hearing stories like Missy’s that we can truly understand the importance of hope.”

Audio: “I knew that the combination of Banner Health’s reputation for excellence and MD Anderson’s commitment to treatment and research were a perfect combination. And, finally, people would be able to find that beacon of hope, not thousands of miles in a plane right away but, right down the street in our own back yard.”
A famous philosopher once said, ‘Hope is patience with the lamp lit.’ And it is my hope that the illumination of this lantern will light hope in the hearts of patients, like me, their families, their friends and their caregivers for a future that is free from cancer.
Thank you all for having me here tonight.

Audio: “Hope will shine bright here at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. It will shine in just a few moments in this symbolic Lantern of Hope. And it will shine in the hearts of everyone caring for cancer patients with compassion and understanding.
We will light a path of hope along the cancer journey- hope for healing, hope for acceptance and hope for personal wishes.
We will travel this cancer journey with each patient and their family, instilling hope with:
- The most advanced medical treatment available to fight against cancer
- With highly skilled, compassionate cancer experts working as a team to provide comprehensive care, here, in one location
- An environment designed just for cancer patients to promote healing relationships
- Emotional, spiritual and lifestyle support and education for every part of the cancer journey
May this light serve as a beacon of hope for everyone touched by cancer, and may we one day be able to extinguish this disease.”
