Discharge / Going Home
Printable PDF
You will receive discharge instructions from the nurse at the direction of your doctor. Be sure to have a complete understanding of these instructions.
Once at home, call your doctor immediately if you have difficulty breathing; excessive, persistent nausea or vomiting; fever and/or chills; unusual swelling or pain; or other complications that your doctor discussed with you.
If you are unable to reach your doctor, call your local emergency room for advice. Call 911 in the case of a life-threatening emergency.
You will receive a follow-up post operative call from one of our nurses the day after your surgery.
Pediatric considerations
- If the surgery patient is a child, please bring a comfort item (stuffed toy, blanket, etc.) with them on the day of surgery.
- Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Proof of guardianship or medical power of attorney may be required.
- Unless otherwise indicated, please monitor children closely to make sure they do not eat after 10 p.m. the night before surgery or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Your doctor may give you special instructions for infants and young children.
