Preoperative testing and labs
If your doctor orders preoperative laboratory tests including an EKG or chest X-ray, please be sure to have them completed at least two days prior to the day of your surgery. Routine hemoglobin tests may be performed at the Banner Surgery Center on the day of your surgery at no additional charge.
Calls from the Banner Surgery Center
You can expect to receive two phone calls from Banner Surgery Center staff prior to your surgery.
- One call will be from our Registration department to verify your demographic and insurance information. They will inform you of any out-of-pocket costs for your surgery.

Medications
Please be sure to talk to your doctor about any daily medication you are currently taking, especially those for heart, diabetes or blood pressure problems. Also mention any over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin, Bufferin, Nuprin, Advil or Motrin, as well as herbal medications or remedies. Your doctor will give you instructions about taking any medications prior to surgery.
Transportation
You can not drive yourself home after surgery. Anesthesia often has lingering effects on the body, therefore please arrange for an adult family member or friend to drive you home after your procedure. For your safety, we will not permit you to leave alone. Please note that your surgery will be cancelled if appropriate transportation arrangements have not been made.
The night before surgery
Do not eat anything after 10 p.m. the night before your surgery. Do not drink anything after midnight (including water) the night before your surgery unless you are directed to do so by your doctor. This includes hard candy, gum, or prescription medications (unless ordered by your doctor). You may, however, brush your teeth and rinse out your mouth with water.
