Banner Thunderbird's new Heart and Vascular Center provides physicians with some of the most highly advanced tools available to diagnose and treat a variety of neurological conditions, including stroke, quickly and effectively.
Banner Thunderbird's stroke care program was recognized by the Joint Commission. There are currently about 800 certified primary stroke centers in 49 states.
What is a stroke?
Stroke is the leading cause of disability and the third largest cause of death, ranking behind heart disease and cancer. Almost 80 percent of strokes are preventable.
The greatest chance for recovery from stroke occurs when emergency treatment is started immediately.
Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is disrupted. Disruption in blood flow is caused when either a blood clot blocks one of the vital blood vessels in the brain (ischemic stroke), or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling blood into surrounding tissues (hemorrhagic stroke

Banner Thunderbird's extensive rehabilitation programs can play a pivotal role in a patient's recovery. We offer physical, speech, occupational and recreation therapies as well as support groups.
