Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
When babies need additional help, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center provides state-of-the-art care that incorporates the most recent research in developmental care.
We feature indirect lighting, sound-absorbing building materials and private rooms designed to promote infant/parent bonding. Our goal is to care not only for the baby, but for the entire family.
Our 35-bed Level III neonatal unit provides intensive and intermediate care for babies of high-risk pregnancies and those born prematurely. It includes:
- A 17-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU)
- An 18-bed Continuing Care Nursery (CCN).
Babies cared for by our physicians and NICU staff eventually graduate to the CCN, a homelike environment designed to prepare families for the special needs of their child.
Board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners lead our knowledgeable and compassionate team of specialty nurses, therapists, pharmacists, dietitians and social workers to provide a customized, family-centered plan of care for each baby and family in our care.
A full-time, developmental nurse is also available to provide hands-on support to families at the bedside, and to provide small group discharge teaching classes for parents and caregivers.
