Volunteer Program Update
Aug. 1, 2013

Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting Banner Health’s mission of making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care.  Banner Thunderbird currently has volunteer service opportunities available in our Adult Volunteer Program.

At this time, we have a significant need for golf cart shuttle drivers, therapy dogs, information desk and nursing unit volunteers, and there are many other service opportunities available.

Here's how volunteers can help:

  • Caring Cart
  • Clerical Support
  • Therapy Dogs
  • Emergency Department
  • Essential Care Volunteer Program
  • Gift Shop
  • Golf Cart Shuttle
  • Information Desks and Escort Services
  • Materials Management
  • Outpatient Services
  • Surgery Waiting Room Desks

Teen Volunteer Program
PLEASE NOTE: As of Aug. 1, 2013, our Teen Volunteer Program is full. Please call the Volunteer Resources at (602) 865-5760 for updates on future openings.

Our teen volunteers make significant contributions of time and talent to the medical center. Because our goal is to have each teen have a positive learning experience as a volunteer, we have established the following criteria to our Teen Volunteer Program:

  1. Year-round Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
    • Banner Thunderbird has a year-round teen volunteer program that is open to high school students who are at least 14 years of age and a freshman in high school.
    • Because of the popularity of our teen volunteer program, new volunteers are accepted only as openings are available.
    • Teen volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of at least 100 hours of volunteer service over a six month period of time. These hours are generally served in one shift of three to four hours a week.
    • All exceptions must be agreed upon in advance.
  2. Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
    • Teen volunteer applications are generally not accepted during the summer months.
    • Teens who wish to volunteer during the summer months and beyond should start their volunteer service no later than May 1.
    • To ensure a start date of May 1, applications should be submitted no later than March 15.
    • All exceptions must be agreed upon in advance.

For more information about our Teen Volunteer Program or to apply, please call the Volunteer Resources Office at 602-865-5760.
