Banner Children’s provides a comprehensive Asthma Education program, using both inpatient and outpatient services to best treat children suffering from asthma.
The Asthma Education program provides individualized education to patients, covering such topics as triggers, warning signs, symptoms, testing, medication and treatments, with specifics based on each patient’s needs. The staff also provides home management plans, organized to help a patient control his or her asthma after discharge.
In the hospital, patients are offered the Pulmonary Function Test to rate how well they are breathing. Patients can request these tests several times a year to track improvement based on a home management plan.
At home, Banner Children’s Asthma Education program supports the use of Peak Flow Meters, which enable a patient to monitor their breathing at home without the assistance of medical staff.
Included in each education plan is Banner Children’s Asthma Education book, a comprehensive guide for parents and patients that can be used as a resource away from the hospital.
