Our goal in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Banner Children's Hospital is to care for not only the baby, but the entire family.
Babies cared for in our NICU eventually graduate to the Continuing Care Nursery, a homelike environment designed to prepare families to meet the special needs of their children. Special NICU programs, such as Kangaroo Care, are encouraged by the nurses and support caregivers of the NICU.
Banner Children's neonatal unit features:
- The largest and most comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the East Valley and one of the largest in the state.
- Individualized care for premature infants and ventilator-dependent newborns
- 104 beds staffed 24 hours a day by a care team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric pulmonologists, pediatric neurologists, pediatric plastic surgeons and specialized pediatric surgeons.
- 29 private rooms, including in-room beds, refrigerators and internet access.
- Dedicated NICU Family Care Center, featuring kitchen, lounge and computers for family use
- Specialized care rooms for multiple birth needs
The NICU is just one of the departments at Banner Children's Hospital that will expand with the development of the new seven-story dedicated children's care tower currently being built on campus.
