Everyone recognizes the importance of a good night sleep. For children, it is doubly important as it is during sleep when their body generates the cells needed for growth and maturity.

Banner Desert Medical Center's Sleep Disorders Pediatric Program is available to help families who might be having issues with their child’s sleep patterns – effectively diagnosing children of all ages to provide a better night sleep for child and care giver.

Our staff includes registered sleep technologists, who are specially trained in sleep monitoring techniques, and physicians, who are board-certified in sleep medicine. Specialty consultants with certification in pulmonary diseases, neurology and psychology also are available to assist in diagnosis and treatment.

The fully accredited Sleep Disorders Program assists physicians in recognizing sleep disturbances including breathing, narcolepsy, insomnia, snoring, parasomnias and circadian rhythm disorders.

The Sleep Disorders Program can help in diagnosing and treating sleep-related disorders, including sleep apnea, excessive sleepiness, movement disorders, insomnia and other sleep/wake schedule problems. The program provides treatment by experienced sleep professionals.

What to expect
Children are usually referred to the sleep disorders program by their primary care physician. Once an evaluation is scheduled, the family will receive a letter confirming the test date, explaining pretest preparations and the test itself, and other special instructions.

The Pediatric Program at the Sleep Disorders Center has a special child-friendly room, decorated with bright colors and offering a soothing atmosphere to relax the child and provide the best possible outcome for testing.

All sleep testing is performed as close to the child’s normal sleep time as possible. Research has shown that tests performed during the daytime do not produce the same results as night-time testing because the child’s sleep pattern and depth are not adequate during these hours.

Our experienced staff can determine therapy needs while the child is in the sleep center. Children exhibiting moderate to severe sleep apnea symptoms can be treated the same night of the diagnostic study, eliminating the need for additional testing and costs.

Accreditation and Locations
Banner Desert Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). This certification is a rigorous process undertaken every five years to ensure quality testing. The staff is extremely proud of this distinction. Banner’s East Valley Sleep Disorders program is the only certified sleep center in the East Valley.
