Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center is the home of Arizona’s most comprehensive hospital-based breastfeeding program.
The Banner Desert Lactation Team is comprised of ten International Board Certified Lactation Consultant/Registered Nurses (IBCLC/RN).
The team also includes a MILC Team (Mother Infant Lactation Counselors) comprised of RNs who are fulfilling an innovative Lactation Internship in preparation for their certification as IBCLC/RNS, working one on one with our experienced Lactation Nurse Consultants.
Breastfeeding patients are actively served throughout the hospital and within the community. Community services are provided through The Lactation Center, our on-campus outpatient breastfeeding and family resource center. Prenatal breastfeeding classes are provided each week to meet the needs of the childbearing family.
Inpatient services include:
- Complex breastfeeding counseling services in all pediatric and adult care areas
- Mother's Milk Program
- a four-part program that assists premature and sick infants to receive their mother's milk and breastfeed as early and as long as possible.
Outpatient services include:
- Prenatal breastfeeding education
- Aftercare follow-up
- Outpatient breastfeeding consultations with a Pediatric Nurse
- Board-certified Lactation Nurse Consultant
- Breast pump rental/purchase
- Breastfeeding apparel and accessories
- Infant and child developmental and feeding supplies
