Volunteer at Cardon Children's Medical Center
At Cardon Children's Medical Center, our volunteers are an important part of our children's hospital care team.
To make sure that we have only the best in volunteers -- as we do in our physicians, nurses and staff -- we require all our volunteers to complete a thorough application, interview and background research process, which can take up to three weeks.
- Contact Volunteer Resources at (480) 412-3258
- Learn more about the Cardon Compass Program, a special volunteer opportunity for young adults

We ask all our volunteers for a service commitment of at least 60 hours within six months or one shift per week, two to four hours in length.
The Application
Please complete the entire Volunteer Application. It is necessary to complete the form in its entirely so we have all the necessary information and do not delay processing of your application.
The minimum age to volunteer is 16. If you are under the age of 18, please call our office for a teen volunteer application packet.
The Interview
Once you have completed your Volunteer Application, please call Volunteer Resources to schedule an interview. At the interview, you will be asked to complete the necessary form for a background check. All volunteers are required to submit a background check before being considered for placement. Please bring a driver’s license or picture ID.
The interview also will provide you with information on current volunteer options within the hospital to help you determine a day and time of the week for your regular volunteer shift.
TB Test and Immunization Records
All volunteers are required to complete a free health screening, including a two-step TB skin test. If you have ever tested positive for TB, you will need to have a physician’s statement indicating the results of your most recent chest X-ray. Banner Health offers these health screenings free through its Occupational Health clinics, located on the Banner Desert campus.
You will be required to provide immunization records during the health screening. If you do not have proof of these immunizations, Occupational Health will draw labs to determine if a vaccine is needed.
The health screenings are MANDATORY as they provide Banner Desert with vital health information to best protect our patients, and our volunteers, from disease. If you have questions about the Health Screening, please call the Occupational Health Office at (480) 412-3275.
Volunteer Orientation
Volunteer Orientations are scheduled typically twice per month. Each volunteer is required to attend orientation before they are placed in their volunteer position.
Identification Badge and Uniform
As with our staff, volunteers are required to wear identification badges and uniforms to best help our patients identify you. Uniforms are purchased through Volunteer Resources for $20-$21 (cash, check, and debit/credit). Badges are provided by Human Resources.
At Cardon Children's Medical Center, we work hard to make sure our patients, physicians and staff are in a positive, healthy and safe environment. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteer activities or have questions regarding the volunteer process, call Volunteer Resources during office hours to speak with a representative.
