The new Emergency Department is the result of a highly collaborative team of designers and hospital administrators, physicians and staff who looked to Planetree principals to improve patient care and staff satisfaction without neglecting functionality and throughput efficiency.
Using a curved plan that echoes the nautilus shape, a fossil common to the surrounding area, hospital designers avoided stark, straight hallways and provided patients more privacy and views into private garden areas, while retaining vital staff access.
Thoughtful design combined healing colors and textures, natural and non-toxic finishes, open nursing stations and abundant natural light with an arrangement that decreases patient flow through public areas and increases patient satisfaction through the creation of a truly inspirational healthcare environment.
Sandy Haryasz, CEO of Page Hospital, explains how the new ED is in line with this philosophy, saying, “the design elements, such as geometries influenced by nature, healing colors and textures, open nurses stations and abundant natural light, work to further our commitment to creating a healthcare environment that provides each patient care and service not just based on physical or mental needs, but also takes into account their spiritual and emotional well-being.”
The Page Hospital Emergency department is a shining example of the compatibility of efficient design and patient/patient-family/staff comfort and satisfaction.
