Volunteers, the Heart of
Banner Health
Banner Health
Volunteering at Banner Boswell Medical Center and Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center is at the heart of it all!
Meet new people and have fun while making a difference in your community!
The volunteer spirit of Arizona’s Northwest Valley communities is dramatically symbolized by the 4,000 volunteers at our nonprofit community hospitals – Banner Del E. Webb and Banner Boswell medical centers. Indeed, our hospitals are one of the nation’s premier examples of how donations of time and talent can make a real impact in the lives of others.

Join our caring team and become the heart of Banner Health!
We understand the needs of volunteers change. It is important to us to ensure that volunteering continues to be a treasured experience for volunteers and staff. Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb were awarded a grant by Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust to help further refine and enhance the volunteer experience through the development of new professional and/or leadership roles, new opportunities for “Baby Boomers” and even greater experiences for volunteers who prefer traditional volunteer roles. The grant is helping our Volunteer Services departments grow and expand to meet the needs of all types of volunteers from the Junior Volunteers to the Baby Boomers and our dedicated volunteers who have been with us for many years.
Volunteers have contributed more than 11 million cumulative service hours, and each year they are honored for their dedication and commitment to community healthcare. Volunteers are recognized for their contributions in a number of ways, including being presented with pins to celebrate milestones of service to those who have donated more than 100 hours of time to our hospitals and medical communities.
Whether it’s on weekdays or weekends, Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb volunteers have many choices when it comes to contributing their time. Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available during weekdays and weekends, as well as the opportunity to volunteer on a weekly, substitute and occasional basis.
Together, our Volunteer Services departments offer more than 200 volunteer positions. Yet we realize volunteering isn’t a one-size fits all experience, so many of those positions are tailored to your lifestyle and individual interests.
The Opportunity is Yours at Any Age!
Whether you want to utilize your talents and interests in a volunteer role, or find something totally new and different, our goal is to provide a worthwhile and meaningful volunteer experience in either patient care or non-patient care settings. Volunteers receive on-the-job training to help them feel comfortable. Volunteers have an opportunity to choose from assignments designed to meet individual interests, with flexible schedules to fit every lifestyle.
Examples of some of the areas where volunteers are needed include:
- Courtesy Carts
- Reception Services
- Patient Liaison Program
- Department Support Services
- Patient and Family Services
- Gift Shops and Thrift Shops
- Community Services such as Telephone Reassurance and Blood Pressure Screening
Junior volunteers have the opportunity to learn more about health care and give back to the community and our patients. Junior volunteers work in dozens of roles in nearly all departments. The eight-week program is open to young adults age 14 and older. Applications are mailed to interested teens each spring for the summer program.
