Aging Well
Weld County Area Agency on Aging offers a variety of Aging Well Self-Management classes such as:  Be Well with Diabetes (living well with diabetes) , Healthier Living (living with chronic conditions), A Matter of Balance (fall prevention), and Powerful Tools for Caregivers (self-care for family caregivers). Classes are offered at North Colorado Medical Center.  For more information or to sign up please call (970) 346-6950 ext. 6117.  There is no cost for these classes, but donations are accepted.

Blood Tests
Wellness Services offers low-cost blood screenings open to community members; some immunizations are also available upon request and availability. Open labs are held on the second Wednesday and the fourth Wednesday of every month from 7 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. 

To schedule an appointment, call (970) 350-6633. Appointments preferred; please fast 12 hours prior to blood draw. All blood tests are held at NCMC in the Union Colony Room, Area C on the ground floor. Print a flier

Body Check... What you need to know: Head to Toe
This head-to-toe health assessment gives you the tools to put your health first by receiving a comprehensive set of preventive health screenings. Invest in your health today! 

 This screening includes:

  • Health Fair Panel (fasting blood work-please fast 10-12 hours)
  • Sleep questionnaire
  • Lung Function Test
  • Body Composition, Weight & Body Mass Index
  • Hip & Waist Measurements
  • Health education with a Wellness Specialist
  • EKG with results read by a board-certified cardiologist
  • Bone Density Screening
  • Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening includes: Education about peripheral vascular disease, stroke, stroke prevention and osteoporosis prevention
  • Ankle Brachial Index
  • Ultrasound of the carotid vessels
  • Ultrasound of the aorta
    (Above four screenings are read by a board–certified radiologist)

CPR for Health Care Providers (Initial)
This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers. Topics covered include: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway obstruction and rescue breathing for adult, children and infants. The certification is valid for two (2) years. The class is located in the Longs Room, on the 2nd Floor, unless otherwise noted.  Registration closes at noon, two days prior to class. To register, please call (970) 350-6633. Please notify us one week in advance if you are unable to attend the class. Your registration will be refunded less a $10 service charge. If you are absent from the class, you will be charged a $10 service fee.

This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers who need to recertify through the American Heart Association. The certification is valid for two (2) years. The class is located in the Longs Room, on the 2nd Floor, unless otherwise noted.  To register, please call (970) 350-6633. CPR for Health Care Providers Skills Check
This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers who need to recertify through the American Heart Association.  The certification is valid for two (2) years.  Renew your CPR certification by completing an online CPR module which includes watching a video, reviewing content and an exam.  When the online module is complete and a Course Completion Certificate is printed, call Wellness Services to schedule a skills check.  Please bring a copy of the Course Completion Certificate with you. 
 
Fee: $50 for CPR for Healthcare Providers includes skills check with a certified American Heart Association instructor. Separate fee for online course, payable online.

Cooking Classes
Come and learn a variety of fun and healthy cooking options. These courses are taught by a registered dietician and are a great way to modify your cooking habits and learn about heart healthy cooking. It’s challenging when thinking about what to fix and how much to prepare when you’re not cooking for a crowd! We’ll make some simple meals to savor when you’re on your own. Taught by Joanne Randolph, R.D.

Tuesday, Dec. 3: Holiday Baking Made Lighter
Can we really “have our cake and eat it too"? A little recipe tweaking is the key. Taught by Mary Branom, R.D.


Heartsaver CPR with AED 
The class is taught by American Heart Association certified health care professionals and covers adult and infant/child CPR, obstructed airway, the Heimlich maneuver, the use of a barrier device, and AED hands-on training. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Heartsaver course completion card. The certification is valid for two (2) years.  This is a contract class with the City of Greeley Leisure Services and is held at the Family Fun Plex. Please call for more information (970) 350-9401. Safe Sitter is a one-day, six-hour curriculum designed for 11-13 year-olds. Participants learn care of the choking infant and child, babysitting as a business, success on the job, child care essentials, safety for the sitter, preventing injuries, injury and behavior management and preventing problem behavior. This is a contract class with the City of Greeley Leisure Services and is held at the Family Fun Plex.  Please call for more information (970) 350-9400. Yoga Basics
Yoga Basics is an introduction to the foundational poses in a begining yoga practice. This class will focus on careful physical alignment for the creation of a safe practice. This class is best suited for those with no physical limitations.

Yoga Flow
Yoga Flow teaches the student to build skills into flowing sequences with a focus on combining breath with movement. This class is challenging and dynamic, for those with no physical limitations.

Chair Yoga
Primarily from sitting in a chair, we focus on gentle movements coordinated with breathing exercises to facilitate greater range of motion, flexibility, and relaxation. Some standing poses may be included.

Gentle Yoga
In Gentle Yoga, the postures are presented in an easy to follow, accesible manner with plenty of time for modifications and focus on breath work. An excellent class for seniors, those with chronic illness or injuries, those newer to yoga, or students wanting a gentle practice.

About the Instructors:

Wendy Pryor RYT, received her 200-hour certification to teach yoga at Old Town Yoga in Fort Collins. Old Town Yoga is registered with the Yoga Alliance, which only recognizes schools that address the highest standards, assuring graduates are well qualified to teach the practicing public.  Wendy is currently working on her 500-hour advanced certification with an emphasis on yoga therapy. She is experienced in teaching Viniyoga style classes where the emphasis is not to achieve the finest form, but to have the best effect on the yoga practitioner’s body. Wendy has worked as a Wellness Specialist at Banner Health for eight years and has been teaching yoga for three years.  She enjoys sharing yoga with students for the therapeutic and mind-calming benefits that it provides.

Tandra Kirkpatrick has a 200 hour Yoga Alliance RYT with Level IV Sequencing and Hands on Adjustment completion. She also has a certification as a personal trainer through the National Council of Strength and Fitness and two Pilates certifications. She has been an instructor for eight years and a student of Prajna for seven years. Tandra has been teaching in the fitness industry since 2002. She swam with the Masters Program for four years.

Bethany Wiley, MPH, RYT, joined Banner Health in 2006 and is the Health & Wellness Coordinator for ECHO Prevention & Wellness. She is a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance, which only recognizes schools who address the highest standards, assuring graduates are well qualified to teach the practicing public. Bethany encourages students from all walks of life to achieve their best health and well-being. She enjoys the practice of physical flow and the grounding and relaxing experience of yoga.

Nicole Alessi, BS, RYT, received her 200 hour certification from Mindstream Yoga in Fort Collins. Mindstream Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, which provides vigorous training standards to create highly qualified instructors. She is currently working on her Kid’s Yoga certification and will complete it at the end of summer. She teaches Vinyasa style classes, which link breath with movement. Nicole has worked as a Wellness Specialist for six years and is enjoying the benefits that yoga can bring to every individual. She enjoys offering modifications and variations so every student can practice to their ability, as well as sharing the benefits of yoga to reduce stress, increase flexibility, balance and strength.
