Aging Well
Weld County Area Agency on Aging offers a variety of Aging Well Self-Management classes such as; Healthier Living (living with chronic conditions, se ofrecer en Español), Matter of Balance (fall prevention), and Powerful Tools for Caregivers (self-care for family caregivers).  Classes are offered at North Colorado Medical Center.  For more information or to sign up please call (970) 346-6950 ext. 6117.  There is no cost for these classes, but donations are accepted.

Blood Tests
Wellness Services offers low-cost blood screenings open to community members; some immunizations are also available upon request and availability. Open labs are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 7 - 8:45 a.m. Appointments preferred; to schedule an appointment, call (970) 350-6633. Please fast 12 hours prior to blood draw. All blood tests are held at NCMC in the Union Colony Room, Area C on the ground floor. Print a flier.

CPR for Health Care Providers (Initial)
This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers. Topics covered include: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway obstruction and rescue breathing for adult, children and infants. The certification is valid for two (2) years. The class is located in the Longs Room, on the 2nd Floor, unless otherwise noted.  Registration closes at noon, two days prior to class. To register, please call (970) 350-6633. Please notify us one week in advance if you are unable to attend the class. Your registration will be refunded less a $10 service charge. If you are absent from the class, you will be charged a $10 service fee.

This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers who need to recertify through the American Heart Association. You must have a current card that expires no later than the month the class is taken. The certification is valid for two (2) years. The class is located in the Longs Room, on the 2nd Floor, unless otherwise noted.  To register, please call (970) 350-6633. Please notify us one week in advance if you are unable to attend the class. Your registration will be refunded less a $10 service charge. If you are absent from the class, you will be charged a $10 service fee.

CPR for Health Care Providers Skills Check
This class is designed for licensed and non-licensed health care providers who need to recertify through the American Heart Association. The certification is valid for two (2) years. Renew your CPR certification by completing an online CPR module (at www.onlineaha.org) which includes watching a video, reviewing content and an exam.  When the online module is complete and a Course Completion Certificate is printed, call Wellness Services to schedule a skills check.  Please bring a copy of the Course Completion Certificate with you. 
 
Fee for CPR for Health Care Providers includes skills check with a certified American Heart Association instructor. Separate fee for online course, payable online.

Cooking Classes
Come and learn a variety of fun and healthy cooking options. These courses are taught by a registered dietician and are a great way to modify your cooking habits and learn about heart healthy cooking. Recipes and samples are included! All classes are held at North Colorado Medical Center in the  Cardiac Rehab Kitchen. Please call (970) 350-6633 to register.  Print a Cooking Class schedule.  

March 12: Spice up your Meals
Learn new ways to combine spices into your recipes to add flavor without the salt shaker. Sample recipes and take home handouts to assist you in experimenting with herbs and spices. Taught by Mary Branom, R.D.

April 5: Gluten-Free Cooking
Learn to make a gluten-free pizza crust from scratch.  A little hands-on fun to make individualized pizza samples. Class will include some discussion on types of flours and cooking gluten-free. Taught by Diane Braithwaite, R.D

May 2: Mexican Foods Made Lighter
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a twist on some Mexican food favorites. Taught by Mary Branom, R.D.

June 5: Backyard Grilling
This backyard grilling class will focus on cooking an entire meal from start to finish on the grill.  We will be focusing on: marinades, grilling techniques and grilled desserts. Taught by Chef Bob Demmler.

Heartsaver CPR with AED 
The class is taught by American Heart Association certified health care professionals and covers adult and infant/child CPR, obstructed airway, the Heimlich maneuver, the use of a barrier device, and AED hands-on training. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Heartsaver course completion card. The certification is valid for two (2) years.  This is a contract class with the City of Greeley Leisure Services and is held at the Family Fun Plex. Please call for more information (970) 350-9401. Heartsaver First Aid

SCREENINGS AND PREVENTION

CT Heart Score
CT Heart Score provides a non-invasive test that accurately measures the amount of calcified plaque in the arteries. The procedure begins with a fast, painless computed tomography CT exam. CT, more commonly known as CAT scanning, uses x-rays and multiple detectors to create interior images of the heart. The Heart Score program includes a 10-minute consultation with a Wellness Specialist, focusing on cardiac risk factor education, identification of non-modifiable and modifiable risks and lifestyle behavior change options. Screenings are held Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. at North Colorado Medical Center.  Call (970) 350-6070 to schedule an appointment.

PAD Screening (Peripheral Vascular Disease)
NCMC's Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening program offers the education and prevention proven to be the best tools for fighting vascular disease and stroke. 

Patients receive:

  • Ankle brachial index: evaluation of leg circulation
  • Carotid Artery disease screening: ultrasound of the carotid vessels
  • Carotid Intima Media Thickness testing
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening: ultrasound of the aorta
  • CardioChek fingerstick: lipid panel
  • Health Education with a Wellness Specialist
  • Health Information Packet

Screenings are held at Summit View Medical Commons, 2001 70th Ave., in Greeley,  on the 1st  & 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Call (970) 350-6070 to schedule an appointment.

Yoga Classes
NCMC is now offering Yoga classes with Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Robin Briggs.

Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga will focus on gentle movements coordinated with breathing exercises to facilitate greater range of motion, flexibility and relaxation. Classic Yoga poses will be introduced using supportive aids to teach alignment, encourage mind body connection, and increase personal awareness. Modifications of poses will be given to address the full spectrum of student needs in order to learn a safe and effective way to practice Yoga with a personalized approach.  If you want to practice Yoga in a nurturing environment with focus on individual needs, lots of encouragement and patience, this is the class for you.  Students with any level of physical ability are welcome. This is primarily a chair and mat class. To register, please call (970) 350-6633.

Yoga Basics
Yoga Basics is an introduction to the foundational poses in a beginning Yoga practice. This class will focus on careful physical alignment for the creation of a safe practice that students can take into their homes or other Yoga classes. Yoga Flow
Join us in exploring the strength, cardiovascular stamina, and freedom of flexibility offered through the practice of Yoga flow. This class offers traditional Yoga poses linked together through movements called
Vinyasa which means to move with purpose. The flow style of moving practice puts the body into a fat burning zone through anaerobic activity. Yoga Flow is for students of all levels. To register, please call (970) 350-6633.

About the Instructor
Robin Briggs RYT, received her 200 hour certification to teach Yoga at the Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in Boulder, CO. The Shoshoni Yoga School is registered with the Yoga Alliance which only recognizes schools who address the highest standards, assuring graduates are well qualified to teach the practicing public. In 2009 Robin completed her 500 hour advanced teacher certification with an emphasis on Yoga Therapy.

Robin has been teaching at NCMC for 2 years and loves sharing Yoga with students for the therapeutic and strength building benefits that it provides.
