In 1981, James R. Wheeler, MD, founded what is now the Western States Burn Center (WSBC), located on the third floor of North Colorado Medical Center.
Under the direction of Cleon Goodwin, MD, Western States Burn Center (WSBC) provides the most sophisticated treatment and technology currently available for the treatment of burn injuries. The center focuses on the care of adult burn patients and consists of a four-bed intensive care unit and six-bed tele/medical/surgical unit for a total of 10 beds.
Dr. Goodwin's relationships within the burn medical community throughout the United States bring a unique presence and outlook to WSBC. The current state-of-the-art burn center provides burn care to a region comprising eight states, (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming), as well as all Banner Health hospitals throughout the United States.
Our burn center professionals provide patient care through a multi-disciplinary team approach. This team includes the physician, physician assistant, physiatrist, nurse practitioner, nurses, physical, occupational and respiratory therapists, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists and psychologists. Coordination of these services enables optimal patient care in all aspects, from the initial acute setting to the outpatient rehabilitation process.
